Young Immortals

In short, the Young Immortals are this universe’s Justice League or Avengers, pending on your comic company preference. It is thanks to my former roleplaying group that the name came to be along with the inspiration for certain characters. The organization started out small, a few seasoned heroes guiding a couple youngsters whom wanted to use their skills and talents for good. Just like the Justice League and Avengers, overtime it grew to have many members with the founders being in charge. Twinstrike, an ageless master martial artist, Olympus the lightning-wielding WWII veteran, vigilant crime fighting sentinel Darkwatch, and Allseer, a clairvoyant mystic, watched over their young protégés in the early years. Eventually the time-manipulating warrior Temporis, divine-armored Armorella, Ironchain the blood-controller, young-bodied and sugar-dependent Brain Lad, Caliber, a super soldier clone of Queen Elizabeth II, and cursed immortal weapon master Ankh grew to be the best champions of the era. Those senior members governed the organization well, until the villain Chimera the Devourer used a smear campaign on them. Chimera convinced the world that their heroes were to blame for the devastation following the Atlas Reversal event because they knew of the impending doom and failed to stop it. With a majority of the public outraged, the world’s governments began sanctioning heroes through registration. Most of the Young Immortals disbanded; some went into hiding or retired while others fight the good fight as regular citizens. But the team’s founders secretly work on to restore their honor and name watching as Chimera steals their legacy for his own clandestine plans.

Update 15.2308.001

Before releasing the new post, I realized some terms might not be understood by all. To rectify this previous and future posts will have hyperlinks for terms that can be explained by Wikipedia or the like. While terms without hyperlinks usually mean they exist only within my comic and that I have not gone to explain them yet in detail. So far the only previous post to be updated is Universe-1689.

Earth-1689

For the most part, the impact of historical events is the same as our world. However, the method and/or outcome are slightly different. Such events include Princess Diana becoming permanently crippled instead of dying in the car accident, the 9/11 terrorists ramming the plane into the Statue of Liberty, President Lincoln was in fact a vampire slayer, and Adolf Hitler sold his soul for artistic prowess which allowed a demon to possess him for the purpose of gathering more souls. Significant changes in this world’s history compared to ours include these few events: Barrack Obama being assassinated a few weeks into his presidency; Joan d’Arc surviving her conflagration (big destructive fire for the layman) and being knighted by King Charles VII; Rasputin escaped before the fatal gunshot, went into hiding, repeated his dastardly deeds throughout history, eventually coming to the states and going by the name "Charles Manson" before being killed in his would be arrest. While the biggest difference between our worlds is that the Mayan prophecy for December 12, 2012 came true. Like it has in the past multiple times, the planet’s geomagnetic poles reversed, which became known as the Atlas Reversal event. This reversal caused massive global damage. Its destruction was further exacerbated by the release of Jormungand to catalyze the creation of this new world. Now most people think an apocalypse means the literal end of the world, but what it really means is the end of the world as we know it, i.e. the world continues but after a great revelation has occurred. So what could possibly be a great revelation in this day and age? Multifaceted is the answer to this question for not just one but several revelations were brought to light. Humanity discovered that the lost continent of Atlantis existed when it resurfaced, that we are not alone in the universe when irrefutable proof was unearthed, that the Cosmic Surge irradiated our momentarily unprotected planet causing the small posthuman population to proliferate, and that our gods and goddesses are in fact real living beings.

Universe-1689

This neutrally-aligned universe residing in the Balis cluster is the main setting of the comic. As the number may suggests it is not the only one, much like DC/Marvel and Sliders have a vast multiverse to contend with. In fact, every fictional universe imaginable is a possible destination for macrocosmic travelers (at least a facsimile there of so I don’t get sued lol). Now being neutrally-aligned means the characters are capable of morally gray decisions much like our reality. While positively-aligned ones can have heroes being okay with playing a game of baseball with the villains or the converse, negatively-aligned ones where the good guys are actually the villains like evil Spock and my favorite, Heroic Decepticons vs. Evil Autobots. As far as the Balis cluster goes, the multitude of universes within it shares several common cosmic phenomena. The Sieve of Maga pours a vast supply of mana, the power source of magic, from the Magic Plane into all open dimensions within its universe. The Planar Keys unlock the ability to travel to each dimension, which in the process allows magic to function within that plane of existence. The Cosmic Surge pulses an exotic and evolution-inducing energy from the center of the universe outward. And finally, all universes within the Balis cluster are observed with a keen eye by the omniversal race known as the Deithans, especially since they use Universe-1689 as one of their penal facilities.

Maintenance

Over the many, many months things have progressed rather slowly for my comic. However, I have been really delving into it much more as of late. Because of this, I plan to "reboot" the blog site which means getting rid of many of the posts I have while putting new ones up that center around the first issue of the comic. So come back often to see the new changes I will be making in the upcoming week.

Smith, Xander - Chimera the Devourer


Concept

            The closest parallel to what and who Chimera is would be Marvel’s Doctor Doom and Heroes’ Sylar. Doom and Smith both share the aspiration of gaining absolute knowledge for world domination because of lost loved ones. Each having a nation’s resources at their respective disposal gives them a good chance of succeeding in those goals. As for the similarities with Sylar, Xander also desires amassing and understanding the many different abilities out in the world.

            His only wear is gold-plated digital armbands, wristbands, headband & shin-guarded boots, along with emerald green robe & loincloth. While many think his choice sparse clothing is questionable, the Lord of Pangaea does so for ease into his Chimeran form without the loss of clothing because they expand as he grows in size. Under this lean toned body hides a monstrous form. At will this Chimeran can alter his skeletal structure to that of a lion’s covered in reptilian hide further protected by hard ice armor, with a neck and fangs capable of flaring out as a cobra’s would, a skull like Zilla’s armed with a ram’s horns cloaked in a small black mane, and opaque-blue draconic arms for wings.

Early Years
Born as a child prodigy and medical chimera to the famed Aztec anthropologists Professor Lucas and Doctor Erendira Smith, Xander was raised by his uncle six years after his mother’s death during childbirth when his father went missing in the Valley of Mexico. Thanks to the financial backing of his Uncle Nikola and Aunt Alison, he was able to attend the most prestigious of schools for nurturing his brilliance. Xander quickly graduated four years earlier than any other gifted student. Impressing everyone around him, his intellect led to a job in the Metahuman Science Division (MSD) thanks to his uncle’s connections to the US government.
While working on the MSD’s Metahuman Instrumentality Project, Xander befriended the military service heroes, Bonechill and L-Trode. They were among the test subjects for Alex’s portion of the project. Upon testing his formula a terrible accident occurred that woke the dormant genes of his ancestors. In the aftermath of the explosion, a confused Xander, urged by the carnal instincts of his Aztec brethren, devoured the hearts of his injured comrades, allowing Dr. Smith to gain their abilities. As with many horrific and PR-damaging incidences, MSD easily covered up the Alaskan military instillation’s disaster. Using him as a scapegoat for their faulty equipment, Xander was discredited and shunned by the science community even though his formula had worked. Because of this and the belief that it was the accident that killed his dear friends, he feels immensely wronged and desires to put an end to the corrupt systems of the world through any means necessary.
Fired from his job and knowing subconsciously he killed his dearest friends; Xander spiraled into a deep depression. It was upon a fateful night when he was drowning away the plaguing nightmares with heavy drinking, that he met the hulking disguised demon, Battleaxe. At first glance Alex thought this giant was an uncouth boorish halfwit; so in his drunken stupor he decided to confront the behemoth. Obviously Alex’s decision resulted in the both violently brawling, which soon had the entire pub at each others’ throats with the two at the center of it all. By time they had laid waste to the bar and its occupants, these intellects realized they had common ground and could learn from each other. From that moment on they had been side by side fighting against any who would dare to stand in their way of global rebirth.
Villainhood
The duo set out to destroy the world so Alex could usher in a brighter future for humanity. As they became infamous working with other villains, Xander made a name for himself as Chimera the Devourer and amassed more powers and knowledge. Soon all in the meta community would learn to not oppose him if they valued their life. After acquiring enough resources, Chimera & Battleaxe embarked together and set up a small company, Chimeratech Industries. With the façade of a corporation, Xander continued towards his goal of ultimate knowledge with the help of Battleaxe. The foolish few who dared to oppose him only strengthened his power by becoming fodder for Chimeratech.
It was not long after to further his understanding of the forsaken magical aspect of reality, Chimera “enlisted” the help of the exceptional physicist Dr. Alyssa Naga. With their combined knowledge, inquisitive nature, and Battleaxe’s sorcery skills, Chimera was able to broaden his fundamental understanding of the universe. Despite her kidnapping, it was during these times of research that the two scientists grew smitten with each other. However, Chimera was concerned for her safety, of becoming a target even though very few would dare stand up against him now. But once he ascended to godhood by eating the heart of a Deithan and had Chimeratech buy out the Japanese conglomerate Himekuro Corp, he no longer feared keeping his love at a distance and married her. With access to the Deithan plane, he was able to prepare for any catastrophe to come.
Pangaean Alliance
Knowing the scale of the upcoming cataclysm, the AR Event, Chimeratech built 2 advanced ships called the Sovereign’s Might and the Sovereign’s Will. Using these arks, Xander saved his wife, unborn children, and as many Japanese as he could before so many lives were claimed by the apocalypse and its aftermath. Like Noah, he shepherded them to a new land, the resurfaced continent of Atlantis, to colonize and establish the new world power under his rule. This new nation became a beacon of hope, prosperity, and envy to every country in the world. Under his rule, the former Japanese and other refugees called their new home Pangaea and formed the Pangaean Alliance, where Lord Chimera could do as he pleased without repercussions.
With the world in disarray from the AR Event, Chimera used this moment to further his reach and influence on the world for his endgame. His company built the World Intranet Database to help bring back fast and reliable communications for the world over. Chimeratech continued its Refuse Relocation International Program (RRI Program) with more fervor than ever, collecting the garbage and undesirables from all the countries, so that it could be recycled and reused. As strife ran amuck, the building of the Labyrinthus Prison on Pangaea helped usher in a calming by imprisoning ill-equipped nations’ empowered criminals. It was eventually decided to also build the Institute for Gifted Beings to educate, train, study as many of the new population of meta-humans as possible. Alongside the inclusion of the Extinction and Genetics Preserve for all the creatures who lost their home and unwanted man-made abominations. This foothold was the real first step toward his goals.
